Walter Sturm was elected to the school board Monday, succeeding Wesley Dawson. Mr. Sturm polled 123 votes, Mrs. Mary Cummings 63, and George Weins, 49. There were two spoiled ballots.
Mr. Sturm will take office July 1. The board will meet July 2 to care for routine business and to elect a president.
At the regular business meeting immediately after the ballots were counted Monday night, the board voted to award the contract for minor seasonal repairs of four city schools to R. S. Gerganoff.
Payment of routine bills was approved and the minutes of the last meeting read and approved.
The planned repairs are:
At Harriet School, repair water pipe under gymnasium floor; sand and refinish gymnasium floor; paint corridors and toilets; repair roof; repair ventilator on roof; check window shades, locks and windows; patch plaster.
At Woodruff School, repair gymnasium roof paint six rooms in old part, sand and finish first grade room, patch plaster.
At Prospect School, repair roof, check locks and shades.
At High School, repair roofs, paint rooms on third floor, replace window shades on west side, paint outside, windows, doors, and ventilators, reset black-boards where needed, replace hardware on west doors, clean and varnish window sills, rehang fire door in shops, refinish girls' shower room (materials ordered), remove glass partition in library, repair or replace stage curtains.
