REV. SUMMERS
Baptists of Mankato, Minnesota, Sorry
to See Him Leave That State and
Honor Him as He Departs.
The Mankato, Minnesota, Daily Free
Press says:
A very pleasant event occurred at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. M. Palmer
on South Broad Street, last evening. It
was a farewell supper given by them in
honor of Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Summers,
who will next week move to Parkersburg, W. Va. The pastor of the Baptist
church and officers of the Sunday
school, fourteen in all, were the other
guests.
At about 8:30 o'clock, fifty or more
members of the church and congregation
executed a surprise upon those gathered
at the residence by filing into the house.
The evening was most pleasantly spent
and before the people left Mr. and Mrs.
Summers were presented with a dozen
solid silver spoons and a dozen silver
knives. Rev. F. E. R. Miller made the
presentation speech in a touching manner, and both Mr. and Mrs. Summers
responded. The best wishes for the future were extended to this worthy couple by all present.
Mr. Summers has for the past four
years been district missionary, with
headquarters in this city. He will now
take the position of general missionary
and superintendent of Baptist missions
in West Virginia. He is very successful in his work, and his departure will
be regretted, as will that of his excellent
family.
