Walter Batty, U. S. Army Chaplain Stationed at Dover Guest Speaker at Asbury
FELLOWSHIP HOUR
Chaplain Walter Batty of the Dover Army Air Base, spoke to the congregation at Asbury Methodist Church last Sunday evening on the work and the opportunity of Chaplains in the Armed services. He stressed the large number of men who have personal conferences with the chaplains and the satisfaction which comes in helping many of the boys with their particular problems. During the service Sgt. Lewis Wells, stationed at the Dover base, sang two selections, accompanied by Pfc. Goldfarb. Sgt. Wells before entering the Armed Forces was a professor of speech. Corp. Donald Dimond of the 90th Fighter Control Squadron stationed here also sang a solo. Pfc. Goldfarb, who was trained for concert playing, gave a piano selection.
The Vested Youth Choir directed by Mrs. Robert Green and accompanied by Mrs. Thomas Coverdale, sang an anthem during the service. Rev. Robert E. Green, pastor of the church, conducted the service and presented the Chaplain.
Fellowship Hour
Following the service a Fellowship Hour was held for the men of the armed forces who were present at the service, and the congregation. The Methodist Youth Fellowship with Jean Ellen Russell as president, assisted in serving refreshments. Mrs. Frank McCauley, Mrs. Raymond Snow and Mrs. Harvey Wright, adult Counsellors for M. Y. F., assisted the young people. Pfc. Goldfarb during the fellowship hour played several piano selections.
