May Join Army
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 7 (UP) —Dr. Herman Frederic Erben, Austrian born brain specialist, whose citizenship the government seeks to cancel, plans to join the armed forces of the United States, he said today.
In his objective he has the blessing of Assistant United States Attorney Louis Mercado, who is prosecuting the naturalization case.
"You are still a citizen until the court rules otherwise, and as such you are still eligible for enlistment," Mercado told Dr. Erben.
Dr. Erben, who was said to have served as a ship's surgeon on a supply vessel to the raider Graf Spee, said he is tired of harassment by FBI agents, and feels that as an authority on tropical diseases, he could be of use to either the army or navy. He contends he has no love for the Hitler regime in Germany.
