IT'S UP TO YOU
By Howard E. Kershner, L.H.D.
Many want government intervention in economic affairs as long, as others and not themselves are being taxed, regulated and forced to do certain things in certain ways. They do not seem to realize that if coercion is applied to some, it is likely to spread to all.
The point is well illustrated by the following sentence from George Bernard Shaw, a lifelong leader of the socialist movement in England. He wrote to the London Economist October 29, 1949:
"... continuous industrial service should be made as compulsory as military service ... thus abolishing absenteeism."
No group or groups can long apply coercive measures to others without themselves becoming its victims.
Those who advocate laws forcing others to behave in a certain way, will soon find similar laws oppressing themselves. He that exacts government force to control others shall not escape the oppression of the same force.
