A Strong Endorsation.—We copy from the Binghamton (N. Y.) Republican, the Republican organ of that county, the following strong endorsement of Colonel Gilbert C. Walker. The Colonel was for a long time a resident of Binghamton, where he studied law, and was well known and highly esteemed. This endorsement should satisfy our people that in casting their votes for Colonel Walker they are not striking in the dark, and are not likely to promote the objects of a penniless adventurer:

"Gilbert C. Walker, Esq., formerly of this city—a brother of Hon. J. M. Walker—is a prominent candidate for Governor of Virginia, and there is a fair prospect of his election. Mr. Walker was born in Alleghany county, in this State, and came to Binghamton while quite young. Here he studied law in 1853, 1854, and 1855, with Messrs. Griswold & Northrup. In 1856 he went to Chicago. In that city he was President of the Douglass Invincibles, a political organization which supported Stephen A. Douglass for President. A large proportion of the Invincibles entered the army when the war opened. Mr. Walker took the stump in favor of volunteering. In 1863 Mr. Walker went to Virginia and subsequently became President of the Exchange National Bank of Norfolk, a position he now holds. His old friends in Binghamton, who remember him as a courteous and educated gentleman, of fine presence and recognized ability, witness with much pleasure his advancement. He stands squarely upon the Grant Republican platform adopted at Chicago, and makes the canvass accordingly."
