WASHINGTON. D. C., March 10
The Committee for Industrial Organization's decision to charter local, state and central labor bodies led American Federation of Labor officials to consider expelling ten unions backing John L. Lewis.
The CIO would become an AF of L rival organization if the plan is completed.
The CIO has steered a course for the unionization of two million two hundred thousand textile and oil workers. Many CIO affiliated groups are participating in strikes affecting a hundred thousand workers.
About fifty five thousand Chrysler automotive workers are idle while Chrysler reiterated his refusal to recognize the United Automotive Workers of America, as the sole bargaining agency for its sixty seven thousand employees.
Ten thousand are idle in the Hudson Motor Car Company, and another ten thousand are idle at the Firestone Tire and Rubber plants at Akron, Ohio.
Federal conciliators have been asked to settle the taxi cab strike in Chicago where four hundred and fifty freight handlers and motormen are also striking to prevent the movement of merchandise in a sixty mile freight subway.
