Full Text

The election, on Tuesday last, terminated the political conflict between the Whigs, the Democrats, and the Liberty Party. We are neutral in politics; and therefore, like all other quiet and good citizens, shall content ourselves with the gentleman elected. By the way, speaking on the subject, we know of no man that would fill with more dignity or honor, the head of our municipal government, than Dr. Staats; no man can be better acquainted with the different grades of mankind than him; and as for public spirit and enterprize, he is not surpassed by any of his fellow citizens.
