THE FAST.

The Governor of Connecticut has issued a Proclamation, requesting the people of that State to observe the first Friday of August as a day of Fasting and Prayer, in accordance with the recommendation of the President of the United States.

NICHOLAS MURRAY, Moderator of the Old School Presbyterian General Assembly, has published a Circular to the ministers and members of the Presbyterian Church in the United States, exhorting them to observe the day set apart by the Chief Magistrate as a day of Fasting, "in accordance with the uniform history and custom of" that "church."

We hope and trust that the day will be properly observed by the ministers and churches of our own denomination.
