Two German Net Aces Steal Show In First U. S. Bow

CHESTNUT HILL, MASS., Aug. 25,(UP). Germany's tennis aces—Baron Gottfried Von Cramm and Henner Henkel—stole the show from their Davis cup conquerors yesterday at the 57th annual national doubles championship finally got under way at historic Longwood Cricket club after a 25-hour postponement because of rain.

Making their American debut, the Teuton tandems, taking the spotlight away from Don Budge and Gene Mako, advanced to the second round with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Bostonians Dick Murphy and Sam Fitch.

Budge and Mako, defending champions, in their first appearance here since their Wimbledon triumphs toyed their way through the opening round, defeating fellow-Californians Robert Harman and George Tolev, 6-1, 6-1, 6-2.

The top-seeded foreign combine from Germany that nearly blasted America's Davis cup hopes in the interzone finals showed the effect of their trans-Atlantic crossing. They were a bit unsteady and their game was spotty at the start. Von Cramm committed a double-fault at the very beginning of the match and contributed another before the initial game was over.
