When Germany's Nazi Party was running wild and wide in Europe its members had a slogan in which they believed: "Tomorrow the world!" they'd cry as they ravaged one country after the other.

Actually, though, the Nazi Party did not originate the cry. The thought was first expressed by the grand-pappy of the editor of this paper at the Battle of Bunker Hill. East the elder stood 'midst the smoke and the sound and the fury and, feeling his confederate blood run hot in his veins, shouted as an inspiration to his fellow soldiers: Y'all, tomorrow this heah world!" And having so shouted, he turned, deserted, and fled homeward to his homestead, The Southern Manner.

But, alas, we digress, though it be in the name of accurate history.

There is no doubt in our mind that our way of life will not only persevere, but will, provided we are careful and diligent, expand to cover the earth. Already there is considerable evidence of this fact. We have in mind the dreadful case of Deerfield, Illinois, a Yankee town.

As you know, back in '54 when the subversive Supreme Court handed down that horrible decision, we Mississippi Southerners did the only thing a true, red-blooded Mississippi Southern Dixiecrat could do, we formed the white citizens councils. At first, due to the instant threat with which we were confronted, it was a defensive organization. Slowly, however, as we defeated enemy after enemy, the initiative became ours, and we were ready, too.

A sparkling example is seen in the story of Deerfield. Clearly, unquestionably, our way of life is spreading. Our white citizens councils have been called on for help! Yankees calling us to help them! Such irony. Truly the Lord has blessed us. So, naturally, bless Him, too.

We have before us a copy of the Chicago Daily News, and on the front page there is a two column, two line head which reads:

DEERFIELD FOLKS
WHISTLE "DIXIE"

Below that headline is a one column sub-head which tells the story that will gladden every Dixie heart that beats. It reads:

WHITE COUNCILS
ASKED TO HELP

The news story was written by Mr. Jack Mabley, and for the glory of every red-blooded dixiecrat we present it in full:

Segregationists in Mississippi for help.

Lewis wrote on Dec. 16 to the Association of Citizens Councils, Greenwood, Miss. He told of the poll in Deerfield by his group which showed 460 favoring the integrated project and 3,507 opposed.

Lewis said in the letter that there is little sincerity on the part of either major political party in advocacy of integration, because each is trying to outbid the other for Negro votes.

Here's What Lewis Stated In Letter

Lewis' letter then stated this:

"It has been most difficult, almost impossible, to get an even break from news media in the reporting of our Deerfield problem.

"As you probably observed crushing pressure is being brought to bear on us by church groups and many other organizations seeking to impose instant and compulsory integration.

"In spite of all this, the Deerfield citizenry has thus far remained united and determined to resist at any cost. I only hope that nothing will happen to change its mind.

I would imagine that determined resistance would be easier to maintain in the South than in the North, although the consequences of defeat would be far more devastating.

"At least you do not have to fight your political leaders and ministers and newspapers to the extent we must up here.

"Any support that you can give us will be most helpful. A little encouragement now and then can be strong medicine for an embattled village.

"The technique being employed by the (builders) is based upon a stealthy approach to a community, a conspiracy to deceive its government and residents until it is too late and then marshaling of great pressure to force compliance.

Feel Obligation To Other Areas

"We in Deerfield feel an obligation to other helpless communities to defeat this project lest it become an approved technique for the destruction of other communities. We shall do our best.

"In the meantime, if it is possible to raise a few prominent voices in our behalf, we shall be forever indebted to you."

White citizens' councils in the South are made up of "pa-
triotic white male citizens."

They are the most vigorous segregationists in the nation.

Lewis said he wrote them because they oppose violence and they "try to attack on a factual rather than an emotional basis."

Lewis said some of the material sent to him "is some of the most contemptible stuff you ever saw," but that he was impressed by the white citizens councils' material because it proposed to fight only on legal grounds.

Lewis' opinion is not widely shared in the North. The Rev. Harold E. Fey, editor of the influential Christian Century non-denominational weekly published in Chicago, has likened the rise of the councils in Mississippi to the growth of Nazism in Germany.

"They are moving in the direction taken by Nazism in Germany," Dr. Fey stated, which first defied, nullified, and overthrew the authority of the courts, then went on to displace other functions of government.

By intimidation and violence, they are beginning that process in Mississippi."
And there, fellow dixie darlings, you have it! Already we have ourselves, and that's the important thing, and now we have been sought out and asked for help by Deerfield, a Yankee town which, obviously, was one of many that failed to listen in 1860 to our voice. Waal, the direction! We have our. We feel it in our bones, now they know! Our leaders—we have Faubus, Jungle Jim Eastland, and Buster Boy Barnett—and that's not all, either. Take heart, dear southern hearts, and in our souls—Yep! The very air we breathe, in our souls, for we are on the move. Y'all, TOMORROW.

The direction? Who cares about the world! Not all, either.
