Many States Are
Represented At
Youth Conference

For the second year in succession the more youthful co-operators of the Twin Cities scored a real success with their annual conference on problems of immediate interest to young people who are closely connected with the cooperative movement.

This year's conference, held at Lake Independence from Friday night, Aug. 9 to Sunday evening, Aug. 11, was attended by 46 people whose home states, besides Minnesota, are as far apart as Massachusetts and Nebraska, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Illinois and Wisconsin. A fine delegation was present from the CCW area, including officers of the Northern States' Co-op Youth League.

John Bosch of Minneapolis gave the keynote speech of the conference Friday night, stressing the place of youth in a rapidly changing world. Sunday morning William Ryder of Minneapolis outlined some of the problems facing young people today.

Short speeches and group discussions stimulated more thinking about what young people can do to help themselves through cooperatives and otherwise. Greater participation in cooperative activity was urged as a concrete means of helping the co-ops along.

A handicraft program drew a great deal of interest, and it was decided that handicrafts deserve a permanent place in the conference program. Likewise recreational activities had no lack of participants.

The entire conference was in charge of a committee consisting of Martin Satz, chairman;

Elizabeth Johnson, secretary; Kurt Kinikin, treasurer; Jessie Anderson, Betty Jane Blazier and Louise Devine. Charlotte Feigel was pianist.

Florence Lind was handicraft instructor, and Frank Shilston led folk dancing.
