"The miserable Conservatives have injured us considerably."—Niles' Register.
Yes, and they will injure you more. Mr. Niles had not got his cue on this subject so early as the 9th of April. The Albany Argus is now coaxing up the "miserable Conservatives" with the idea that they are all "brethren of the same principle," except on the Sub-Treasury question—as men who will "act cordially and efficiently with the friends of the administration, and give to the democratic cause and the republican candidates an active support." The Conservatives must be "miserable" indeed if they can be dragooned in this manner. But how will Mr. Niles get himself out of this dilemma? He has got to crawl back, and we shall see the Times and the Register tugging at his heels shortly. When the Albany Regency organ begins to call upon the Hercules, all the stipendiaries will join in the "view halloo." Notwithstanding the "factious and unprincipled conduct" of the Conservatives, an attempt will be made to make them very clever fellows before "next year."
Heaven send they are not "cheated."
