NYA Job Hunt Pays Good Dividends To Youth Of State Youths Of Holmes And Attala County Get Work Experience
Holmes and Attala county youth workers are now getting work experience in concrete form building and brick work. One hundred and twenty four youth workers have been on the job since last month.
Mr. Drummond of Hull & Drummond, architects, Jackson, Miss., says the job is progressing nicely under the direction of Project Supervisor J. L. McElroy.
Expenditure of federal funds in Mississippi on Youth work experience income of $47.00 per month per youth has turned into anticipated income of $47.00 per month for 527 young people through the direct results to date of the current National Youth Administration Job Hunt.
As the 60 day drive entered its seventh week, District NYA Director George M. Deen, announced that jobs have been found for 127 NYA work-experience youths in this district and that 527 jobs have been found for youths over the state. The State-Wide Job Hunt goal is 600 jobs.
In terms of expenditure the report explained, a year's work experience for 527 young men and women costs $101,184. The jobs obtained pay an average of $11.00 per week which will bring to the youth total annual income of $301,444. The report pointed out that an average period of about one year is required to equip a youth with sufficient work experience to enter private employment.
"As State Administrator Flowers said recently," commented District Director Deen, "We will feel highly pleased if we can continue this rate of return on our investment. Jobs obtained during the employment drive are returning to these youths and their families approximately three dollars annually on each dollar the National Youth Administration has invested in giving them work experience."
The Job Hunt in Mississippi will be concluded December 31, and NYA District Director Deen said that results to date gave promise that the state wide goal of 600 placements would be reached.
