Full Text
At 2 o'clock this afternoon Henry Schaffer, found guilty of horse stealing, came before Judge Smith for sentence.
Henry's able young attorney, Sam A. King, had made a gallant fight alleging insanity. While the chain of evidence went to prove that Schaffer at times gets "off his base" it did not show that he was insane at the time he took the horse. His case was pleaded so well, however, that the jury saw fit to bring in a recommendation to the court for mercy and the judge imposed the lightest sentence--one year in the penitentiary.
