Full Text

Extract of a letter from Glasgow, dated August 16.

"Your indignation would rise to hear how contemptible people talk here of American associations. They generally agree that such resolutions may last three months nominally, though all hands agree that the majority of your merchants will violate the spirit of them in much less time. The town is full of letters from factors and little shopkeepers in different ports on the continent, all avowing their resolutions to import and sell goods, let the public resolutions be what they will. I am fully persuaded that the merchants agreeing not to import goods will be of little avail unless the people also in general agree not to buy or use goods imported, and that in a solemn manner."
