INCREASE IN BUDGET
A budget totaling $224,161.73 was approved at the annual town meeting held Monday, October 2.
The figure represents an increase of $6,863.04 over the budget of a year ago and is $18,212.02 more than was actually expended in the last fiscal year not including another $1,500 requested by the town recreational committee which item will be passed on at an adjourned meeting October 16, and notwithstanding a reduction of $4,833.79 in the redemption of debt account.
Most of the over-all increase in the general fund is accounted for by sizable boosts in the amounts allocated to the Board of Finance contingent fund, the police department and the highway account. The School budget was also increased by $1,674.82.
Of the total $136,118.05 is for the general account of which $24,650 is said to be refundable by the state for highway purposes.
The School budget is $108,043.68.
As customary, the laying of the tax rate was tabled until the March meeting.
