NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 26 (ANP) - Federal housing officials have been asked to make inquiry into the blast destruction last week of a three-story, 14-apartment unit of a Negro federal project here which brought death and injury to more than a score of persons. The explosion, followed by fire leaving six known dead, is thought to have been caused by a gas leakage in walls of the building. The odor of gas, detected by residents of the building, is said to have been reported prior to the explosion. Morris J. Edwards Jr., management aide at the project, says that these complaints were always checked.

The blast, which occurred at 6:30 in the morning, ripped apart 13-inch walls of the brick and tile building, felled huge beams and the terrific force shattered windows and scattered scraps of household furnishings over a wide area.
