A very valuable mine has lately been discovered in the town of Leverett, county of Hampshire, in this Commonwealth. What the most valuable metal produced from this mine really is, is not yet determined, the Proprietors not having met with persons of sufficient chemical knowledge to give them the desired information. True it is, that the ore yields, after the first simple mode of separation, one sixteenth part of a pale yellow metal, of a fine texture, which will bear drawing, even after the first process above-mentioned, into very fine wire; it is supposed to be too fine for copper, and upon trial does not appear to be a very base metal. Some persons suppose it to be silver mixed with copper—some gold with copper—and others, gold which wants the maturing hand of time to bring it to perfection—while others think it a new species of metal; but all agree, that whatever it is, it must be very valuable to its owners, as the ore yields bountifully, is easily come at, and the mine upon inspection is thought to contain immense quantities. Several tons of the ore have already, with very little trouble and expense, been taken from the mine, which also produces very large quantities of lead. Both the lead and the other metal, is in its natural state in flint stone. We shall publish further particulars relative to this discovery as they come to hand.

The ore yields one sixteenth part of a pale yellow metal of fine texture after simple separation, which can be drawn into fine wire. It is supposed to be too fine for copper and not base. Opinions vary: silver mixed with copper, gold with copper, immature gold, or new metal. All agree it is very valuable. The metal and lead are in flint stone.
