ISMAY GETS "STUNG" ONCE
They Find Out That We Are On The Map.

Hon. W. L. McGenniss, Supt of the Railway Mail Service with office with the 2nd Ass't P. M. General, Washington D. C. and C.P. Blake P. O. Inspector, Western division with headquarters at Seattle, were visitors at Baker last week for the purpose of looking into the proposed Ekalaka-Baker mail line. There has been so much said about this line that these gentlemen were instructed to come and look over the proposition personally and settle everything to the satisfaction of those most interested. W. R. Barber and S. W. Davidson, two former Ekalaka residents made it a point to see these gentlemen on their arrival at Baker and are to be congratulated on their good work which materially helped in securing the line.

Several Ismay people were aware of the arrival of representatives of the department and in their automobiles went to greet them at the train with the hope of taking them over the Ismay route and getting the same established. Their plans were badly shattered upon finding that these gentlemen were not in favor of any Ismay proposition and would not take time to consider any, knowing however that heretofore the Ismay line was secured through the efforts of persons who wanted it for their personal benefit. From reports received by us it appears that the Ismay grafters were given a piece of the superintendent's mind that gave them to understand that their ways of doing business with the government must change.

W. H. Peck met the government representatives at Baker and accompanied them as far as Miles City. On leaving Mr. Peck was assured that the Ekalaka-Baker line had been established and that in less than thirty days after the beginning of the contract Ekalaka could have a daily mail line. The Ismay line will continue to run as far as Toe Dee with "Shorty Taylor" as contractor.
