WITNESSED ATOMIC FIRING-

Pvt. Freddie L. Benson of Atlanta, Ga., leaves the shelter of a trench at Camp Desert Rock, Nev., where he witnessed the firing of the atomic cannon. A member of the 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment stationed at Camp Pickett, Va., Benson participated in the latest series of atomic maneuvers and was given an extensive indoctrination in atomic warfare.

A graduate of Howard High School and a former student at Morehouse College, he was employed as a baker by the A and P Tea Co. before entering the Army in February. His wife, Justine, lives at 311 University Avenue. S. W. and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Benson, live at 890 Kirkwood Avenue, S. E.
