The Jackson club element of simon pure Democracy held their primary meetings yesterday for the purpose of selecting a candidate for election as alderman at large to succeed the late Alderman Lewy.

Gambrinus hall at the corner of Market and Navarro streets was the voting precinct for all wards south of Commerce streets and Testard's store at 112 East Houston street was the precinct for all wards north of Commerce street.

The polls were opened at 4 and closed at 9 p. m. and at that hour but few people had voted.

At Gambrinus hall where C. C. Chatfel presided, the total vote was as follows: C. N. Hughes 1, Wm. Davis 10.

At Seth Testard's place Mr. Testard was the presiding officer and 71 votes were cast, 56 for Davis and 15 for Hughes.

Captain Davis is consequently the nominee.
