FROM MEXICO.

Extract of a letter from Nacogdoches:

The Mexican expedition has completely failed. A battle took place the 18th Aug. about 25 miles West of St. Antonio, which ended in the total defeat and dispersion of the Revolutionists. A horrid carnage ensued, not a single person taken on the first day was spared. Gen. Arredondo pursued the fugitives, and is now in Nacogdoches. All the Americans who fell into his hands were treated very kindly and furnished with arms and ammunition for the purpose of killing game on their return to the United States. Gen. Arredondo said publicly that it was the intention of his government to open a free commerce with the United States.

In the battle of the 18th the Royalists were commanded by brigadier general Arredondo and was supposed to be 3,500 strong, amongst whom were 300 regulars from La Vera Cruz.

Gen Toledo commanded the Republicans, about 450 Americans and 700 Spaniards. The day was lost by insubordination. It is a fact acknowledged by the Spanish soldiers in the R. Army that they had commenced retreating when they discovered the disorderly state of the Republican troops. Had they have stood but five minutes longer the victory was theirs.

A new expedition is projecting by the French in N. Orleans.
