At a court of Oyer and Terminer held the 4th, 5th, and 6th instants, Liettleton Ward, from Northampton, for treason: Acquitted by the grand jury. William Fiartly, from Augusta, for grand larceny: Guilty. Burnt in the hand. Drury Hadzes, from Henrico, for passing counterfeit money: Acquitted by the grand jury. Joseph Smith, from Hanover, for passing counterfeit money: Acquitted by the petit jury. Josiah Lankford, from Bedford, for grand larceny: Acquitted by the grand jury. James Brown, from Frederick, for horse stealing: Acquitted by the grand jury. Alexander Campbell, from Albemarle, for horse stealing: Guilty. Death. Joseph Hadley, from Loudoun, for horse stealing: Guilty. Death. Richard M'Clanan, from Prince's Anne, for treason: Acquitted by the grand jury. George Mabry, and Benjamin Wren, from Henry, for horse stealing: Acquitted by the petit jury. Reuben Warrington, from Accomack, for treason: Discharged, no evidence appearing against him to support a prosecution. Sixteen men from Monongalia, for treason: Discharged, for the same reason. Except Conrad Six, who was tried for a misdemeanor, and acquitted by the petit jury. Joseph Hurst, from Northumberland, for treason: Acquitted by the grand jury. Elizabeth Smith, from Berkeley, for murder: Discharged, for want of evidence to prosecute; and it appearing that the said murder, if committed at all, was perpetrated in Boston.
