FROM MEXICO.

TERRIBLE CONDITION OF THE COUNTRY—CONTINUED SUCCESS OF THE LIBERALS.

New York, August 19.—The steamer George Cromwell, from New Orleans, with advices to the 12th instant, has arrived.

The Times' Brownsville correspondence says the Liberals have been steadily successful in the State of San Luis, driving the Imperial forces within the defences of San Luis Potosi.

The people feed and assist the guerrillas, and show themselves to be utterly opposed to Maximilian.

Commodore Leon Smith arrived at Galveston from Brazos Santiago, and says the war carried on in Mexico is perfectly horrible, neither side taking any prisoners, but murdering all they capture.

The Houston Telegraph says the army worm is ravaging the interior.
