Killing A Wolf.—The Portage Register contains an account of the killing of a wolf. A party of men, mounted on mules and armed with knives, rifles, etc., gave him chase in the afternoon, but night coming on, they retired until morning. Being reinforced, they commenced the chase again, and they soon found him, and after shooting at him with no result several times, concluded to run him down. The snow being deep, they soon overtook him, and knocked him over in the snow several times. He didn't appear to die very easy and they commenced clubbing him with their rifles, but his head proved the hardest—their rifles broke. Being thoroughly disgusted with such fighting, the wolf took refuge in a corner of the fence. They then all dismounted, and surrounding him, demanded his surrender. No reply being received, one seized him by the tail, another by the ear, and dragging him out, they plunged a knife into his throat—Gathering up the fragments of the fight, they returned, declaring that when the track of another wolf should be found, they would give chase and shoot him in the same way.
