Important Decision in Reference to
Expresses—A dispatch from Hartford,
(Conn.,) on the 19th, says:
In the Circuit Court of the United
States here to-day, before Judges Nelson
and Shipman, in the case of Bank of
Norwalk vs. Adams's Express Company,
the jury found a verdict for the
defendants. The action was to recover
$2,971 claimed by Bank of the Express

Express.
The Court held that an Express
Company is an insurer, or guarantee,
of the genuineness of paper sent
through it, and has the right to deliver
the avails of a note to the party from
whom it receives the note, even though
the bank sending the avails supposes
it is sending them to some one else.
