The Westminster Review, a work of acknowledged ability, in speaking of some Travels in the United States of America, takes occasion to make the following observations, the truth of which will not be questioned:

"America possesses a stronger hold than ever on the hopes and affections of those who desire the improvement of the general condition of man."

"America is the only country which has presented us with the spectacle of a people governed by a system of genuine representation: the spectacle not of a nominal, but an actual republic, and entire democratic ascendency."
