Bad Melons Get Men In Trouble

Z. Assaman, Japanese farmer near Westmorland was fined $250 in Judge Cook's court yesterday for shipping over-ripe melons. He was hit in the same place when county inspectors had him up the same day before Judge Griffin of Brawley, who fined him $50 for a similar offense at Brawley.

Horticultural inspectors say Assaman has been a thorn in the flesh for some seasons. They assert he was caught with a truck load of rotten melons and a second offense was committed in Brawley where he was found salting away bad melons in the bottom of a truck load to be shipped from that point.

R. Pacnee Mexican, was fined $50, half of which was suspended, for shipping green melons, and a watermelon grower named Akalian was fined $50 for shipping unfit melons in Judge Griffin's court yesterday.
