No Copper Country Passengers Hurt
in Marinette Wreck.
So far as can be ascertained, no copper country passengers were injured in the derailing of the St. Paul train which left Calumet Friday afternoon, at Marinette, Wis., that same evening. Although there were several passengers from this section on the train, the most serious injuries sustained were those resulting from the nervous shock.
The most serious injuries were received by the engineer and fireman who jumped from their cab after doing everything possible to avert the impending disaster and by two passengers from Marinette, Wis., who suffered minor injuries.
The wreck was caused by the unbolting of the switch rod and the prying apart of the switch rails, causing the train which was going at a thirty-five mile an hour clip to plunge into an unused and poorly ballasted track about six hundred yards long. The engine and tender turned turtle, bringing the train to a sudden stop and hurling the frightened passengers about the inside of the cars. The St. Paul officials and Wisconsin authorities are investigating the wreck and rewards have been offered for the apprehension of those who caused it.
