HEARTY RESPONSE
TO FUND CAMPAIGN

Legion and Auxiliary Raised
$830.92 for The Messenger

Working under the general direction of Miss Edna Woodford, members of the Harry E. Johnson Post American Legion and its Auxiliary in their campaign for funds to aid the financing of The Messenger, raised $830.92 from the sale of new subscriptions, special donations, and the sale of tickets to the benefit card party held Saturday evening, March 17.

The new funds, according to business manager, L. M. Bingham, will clear all current indebtedness of the service men's paper and will possibly supply most of what will be needed in addition to the anticipated income from regular subscribers to finance the publication during the coming year.

More than $500 in renewals and donations from present subscribers was collected by those participating in the campaign for new funds in which the post and auxiliary members were aided by volunteer solicitors from the local Lions Club.

The campaign was the first of its kind organized in behalf of The Messenger since the initial brief solicitation for subscriptions at the time the publication was launched two years ago. The house to house canvas for subscriptions was completed for the most part during the week of March 4. A total of 197 new subscriptions were secured bringing the local list of subscribers to 934.

The sale of tickets for the card game continued until the evening of the event which was well attended.

In addition to their assistance in the subscription campaign, the Lions Club in cooperation with the Bloomfield Central Volunteer Fire Department added $143.50 to The Messenger fund through the sale of tickets to a benefit basketball game held Saturday, March 24.
