Full Text

On Monday last arrived here the brig Hope, Capt. Field, in 48 days from Cadiz. By him we learn, that about ten days before he sailed, information was received at that place, and published by order of the Spanish Court, of the RE-CAPTURE OF TOULON, by the French republicans. The particulars Capt. F. was so unfortunate as to leave behind him; but he thinks this event took place about the 18th of December: that the French carried the great Fort of la Malgue, by storm, during the sitting of a council of war, at 12 o'clock at night;—that the combined forces immediately fled to their boats; that many were drowned, and that the French put every Englishman they found to the sword, in retaliation for some enormities exercised by them on republicans of the town: That the combined fleets slipped their cables and had departed for Port Mahon in the Mediterranean, after destroying the French fleet they had captured at that place:—The slaughter was said to be great, and the account of it was fully credited at Cadiz.

Capt. Sutton arrived yesterday from Cadiz, and confirms the foregoing account of the Re-capture of Toulon.
