Various Town Boards Meet
and Choose Officers -
New Members Are Sworn
In
Organization meetings of the Fire, Street and Library boards were held Monday evening and new members were sworn in by Edward O'Brien.
The new members of the Water board were sworn in but the board did not organize until Tuesday evening.
Councilman Joseph W. Burke was elected president of the Fire board and John G. Hyland clerk. Both are new members of the board. The other members are Timothy Sullivan, who was reappointed, Burdette Fothergill and Ernest D. Marting whose terms expire in 1933. An informal discussion was taken in regard to a new fire house.
This will be necessary soon as the present quarters cannot be heated. The next meeting will be November 16.
William F. Driscoll, formerly a selectman, was chosen president of the street board and Leland Sparks clerk. Mr. Driscoll has also served on the Zoning board and Town Plan Commission. The board will hold its meetings on the first and third Mondays of the month. The other members are Councilman James W. Bancroft, who is now at the Manchester Memorial Hospital, Roger J. Howard and Fred Holland, who is the only member of the old board to continue in office. Mr. Driscoll succeeds William G. Squires as president.
The new library board met in the historical room of the town library Monday evening and organized by electing George Goodwin chairman and Mrs. Raymond H. Brewer secretary. Miss Jessie W. Hayden, librarian, read her report, which has been in part printed. Mrs. Brewer was directed to prepare a statement to be given to the town council next Tuesday, telling of the organization and the acceptance of the report.
Mr. Goodwin told new members about details of work in the branches in the Meadow, the south part of the town and Burnside.
The new members are Miss Jeanette Moriarity, Catherine M. Montrey and Daniel D. Bidwell and they take the place of J. Vincent Freeman, Richard D. O'Connell and Miss Bertha Sutter respectively. The old members are Mr. Goodwin, Mrs. Wayne E. Geer, Mrs. Brewer, Frank S. Sellew and Miss Anna Collins.
The new Water Board met Tuesday evening and Frank J. Geary was elected president to succeed George Westbrook. The election of a clerk was deferred. The new members of the board, in addition to Councilman Geary are Henry H. Hayden and Frank Nolan and the holdovers are Charles L. Hogan and George H. Barton.
Councilman Patrick Gaudet was chosen president of the Park Board to succeed George A. Cooley. Henry M. Thayer was chosen clerk. Councilmen Gaudet, Mr. Thayer and Martin Isleib are the new members. Mrs. Edith Bidwell and George Miltimore
Councilman Harry Johnson was elected chairman of the town plan commission and Frederick L. Carleton secretary, succeeding Landon E. Hunt and Perry Close respectively.
Charles H. Kean and Frank A. Balf are other new members and Lewis B. Comstock and Wilfred B. Carroll hold over.
