"We arrived in safety on the night of the 22d. The scene was a stirring one from the mouth of the St. John's to this place. From one of the revenue cutters, we were hailed by the most thrilling and deafening chorus - a charming prelude to the loud roar of the wide mouthed artillery, and grand finale to similar demonstrations of welcome, which had greeted us at all the points of detention during our progress up the St. John's."
"From all authentic information obtained by spies, scouts, &c. the main body of the Indians, including many women and children, is congregated on the Withlacoochee near the site of the late battle. It is contemplated to form a junction of our forces with as little delay as possible, and charge upon the enemy; but several days must elapse ere we are fully prepared for the onset. The scene of action is a hundred miles from Picolata. One principal object will be to form a military cordon from the St. John's to Tampa Bay, to prevent the escape of the Indians."
