Melancholy Accident.—Two lads, Thomas Slocum, son of Maj. Benjamin Slocum and Ebenezer Carpenter, son of Capt. John Carpenter, were drowned at Valley Falls on Sunday afternoon last.

On the afternoon of the accident they went out to fish, in the Factory trench, where, it is supposed, that one of them fell into the water about 10 feet in depth, and the other, in attempting to rescue him from drowning, met with him, a watery grave. They were not discovered until four hours after the accident is supposed to have taken place, and all attempts at resuscitation proved fruitless.
