Event Details
Our Archbishop demanded of the Provost of the Merchants a larger Quantity of Water to be laid into his Palace. That Magistrate called a Common Council, in which a Minute was made to increase it to near an Inch, despite predecessors' contentment with the same quantity. The Town-Clerk carried a Copy to the Archbishop, who tore it in Pieces, rubbed it under the Town-Clerk's Nose, and said with great Indignation, 'There's your City's Inch.'
