William D. Haywood, Organizer of Industrial Workers of the World, Threatened with Arrest, Leaves for Chicago.
(By Morning Journal Special Leased Wire.)
Passaic, N. J., April 6.—Arrangements are being made to send to New York more than 1,000 children of the 3,000 operatives now on strike for union recognition, higher wages and shorter hours in the textile mills in this city and vicinity, according to announcement by strike leaders here tonight.
This is the plan followed by the strikers in Lawrence, Mass. It is thought improbable that the exodus of the children will be interfered with.
Several well-known women in New York have been collecting funds, it was reported here tonight, for the support of the children, and have arranged for their shelter.
Today was comparatively quiet.
William D. Haywood, the Industrial Worker of the World organizer who was threatened with arrest by the authorities of Garfield if he made his appearance among the mill workers there again, has gone to Chicago, it is said, but is expected to return to this city before Thursday.
