Mr. A. J. Poole, according to a well defined rumor current in Americus last night, has been promoted to the position of general superintendent of motive power for the entire Seaboard System, with headquarters at Portsmouth, Va.
The report, as stated, reached Americus yesterday and is believed to be authentic, though not given out here from any official source. General Superintendent Sanderson retired from that position about two weeks ago, and rumor has it that Mr. Poole is to succeed him; a most admirable selection.
Mr. Poole has for two years been division superintendent of motive power, with headquarters in Atlanta, his authority extending over the wide territory from Birmingham, Ala., to Hamlet, N. C., together with numerous branch lines. This position in itself is a highly responsible one, and is filled by Supt. Poole with much ability.
His many friends in Americus trust that the report of his recent good fortune will be fully confirmed today. Mr. Poole, reared in Americus, began here his career with the Seaboard and has filled many responsible positions with that system. He was for a time superintendent of the Americus shops, and was transferred hence to Savannah in like capacity, and later to the position he now holds in Atlanta.
