WOULD PAY FRENCH DEBT TO
AMERICA IN FINE CHAMPAGNE

Kansas City, Mo. Payment of the French war debt in champagne was proposed here Friday by Jules Sauerwein, foreign editor of Paris Soir, now touring the United States.

"The French government should pay its debt to the United States in wine which the United States could sell in the manner of the Canadian and other governments," said Sauerwein.

"By selling it at four times the cost, the French merchants could be paid for the wine, the French debt could be settled and some of America's own debts could be paid."

"Gangsters and bootleggers would be foiled and crime would decrease in the United States. We now have 60,000,000 bottles of champagne awaiting us. Voila!"

Sauerwein is touring the United States gathering material for his paper. He came here from Memphis.
