Rowan Gold!—We have been shown a few pennyweights of pure gold, found on the land of Col. Thomas G. Polk, in the southern part of this county, on Gold Water Creek, about 8 miles from Salisbury. It is a beautiful specimen of virgin gold: was found at the base of a considerable hill, and on the margin of the creek; the geological appearances of the earth and rocks, immediately in that vicinity, are said to indicate the proximity of large quantities of the precious metal. We sincerely wish it may prove a rich mine; for, in that event, we might indulge a well-grounded hope that it would have some effect in mitigating the present heavy pecuniary embarrassments of the people.
