Jupiter Has Shied At New Storm Water Drain—Sun For Onions
Several days ago when the sky ruffled up—the clouds until banks of black threatening rain clouds overhung the city, a gentleman was heard to remark, "Well, if it does rain we will have a chance to test that new storm water drain recently constructed."
It is a fact that it has not rained in Laredo since the construction of the new storm water drain which was built for the purpose of keeping the water after heavy rains from forming in ponds on some of the principal streets.
The storm water drain was completed during the latter part of the month of January and just previous to its completion a hard rain fell which formed a lake in the vicinity of the new court house. It was at that time that we wished for the early completion of the drain, and now that it is completed and ready for a tryout there is nothing to try out on. Jupiter since he has been informed of the fact that there is a new Storm water drain in the city has shied and although at times a rain seemed unavoidable, Jupiter pushed his rain distributors to one side and gave way to the sun.
Since Spring has arrived the clear blue sky has been in evidence all the time with not a cloud to flaw its perfect surface and the sun has smiled with its warm beneficial smile. The onion men have responded with a smile, for sun is what they want now for the development of their crops.
The onions are looking fine now and although they will be a little late in comparison with last year in fully developing, the sun is doing them a daily benefit by furnishing the warmth that will develop the bulbs into full fledged onions.
It is a little early to try and estimate the size of the crop this year. Some of the growers have more onions than before and some less.
