DEVELOPING LIVESTOCK INDUSTRY

DISTRIBUTION of cattle taken from drought stricken Midwest states in this district indicates that the government looks upon this region as being superior to other sections from a grazing standpoint.

The thousands of acres of fine grazing land which lie in the boundaries of the Colville reservation may yet be adequately stocked if the government continues with its program of transferring livestock taken from states where periodic droughts make cattle raising a too hazardous proposition.

At the same time the Indian service is now working on a sub-marginal land program, through which thousands of acres eventually will be taken entirely from cultivation and classed as fit solely for grazing purposes.
