SACRAMENTO, Dec. 23 (UP)—California legislature was in recess until Jan. 12 after voting appropriation of $100,000 for defense needs.
The senate and assembly after two days of wrangling among themselves with Gov. Culbert L. Olson disagreed on the recess to give joint committee time to investigate additional emergency funds needed by the guard and various state departments.
A prolonged assembly deadlock for two weeks threatened the proposed recess. However, a vote-switch in the waning hours on a free conference committee recess report landed its victory.

Anti-Olson strategists cut insistently the temporary shelve in the guard appropriation voted by the senate, cutting the senate's vote.
