THE ELECTION IN CARROLL COUNTY.

The contest is past—the battle has ended—a victory has been achieved and the Whigs of Carroll have again covered themselves with glory.

The campaign was brief but brilliant. Our friends were vigilant, and whig vigilance always secures a Whig victory.

In view of the great principles involved in the contest, in view of the means used to defeat those principles—means which the sterling whigs of Carroll will ever remember—we feel that the triumph of the Whig Ticket is a cause of rejoicing.

The whig party stood up to the real issues. They adhered throughout to their principles, and nothing but their principles, no subterfuge was used—no attempt made to escape them. Whig measures were advocated in all their length and breadth, whilst Locofocoism was opposed in all its destructive forms. Our success may therefore be looked upon as the triumph of principles over the destructive measures of Locofocoism.

The vote was not so great as that polled last year. The rain prevented many from attending the polls. But for this we would without doubt have carried the whig ticket with a greatly increased majority—Bebb, it will be seen, has a majority of ninety five votes; Brown seventy three; Beauty seventy one; Wilkin forty six; Clark fifty three; and Baxter eighty. This is glory enough for one year.

Whigs of Carroll, in this conflict with locofocoism, you have borne yourselves nobly. You have shown that, when aroused in defence of your cherished principles, in defence of the interests of our State and common country, you are invincible; all the powers of locofocoism, whether native or acquired, bought or borrowed are unable to prevail against you. You have given a death blow to the destructive principles, of Tod, Fries, Deford & Co. You have shown that you are neither to be driven nor seduced from your principles. Every attempt of the destructives, every attempt of their allies have been made to recoil upon themselves; giving us the gratifying assurance that the real Whigs of Carroll have remained steadfast, true to their principles. You have shown yourselves above the reach, beyond the influence, of ambitious demagogues. You have shown that you are lead and governed by principles, not by men nor factions.

We congratulate you most heartily. You have met the highest expectation of every friend of whig measures. But time and space will not allow us to speak of Orange, Brown, Lee, Rose, and other townships that have excelled themselves. All have done well. We trust this glorious triumph over Faction and locofocoism combined, will never be forgotten; but in future contests with these destructives, may the remembrance of this campaign inspire you with new zeal, and nerve your arm for greater deeds—for another and more glorious victory.
Ohio Election.

STARK COUNTY—ALMOST A VICTORY.—By the "Ohio Repository" of yesterday, we have received the returns from Stark county. We have neither time nor room to go into details; and will therefore sum up the result as briefly as possible.

Tod's majority over Bebb is 96: In 1844 Polk's majority over Clay was 623! being a gain of 527 since the last Presidential election. Mr. Lahm, the Independent candidate for Congress has a majority of 80 votes over Mr. Strakweather, his Locofoco competitor. Mr. Griswold, Whig, is defeated for Senator by Mr. Graham, by only 16 votes! Messrs. Kryder and Cook, Locos, are elected Representatives, the former by 6 votes, and the latter by 37! What shall we say of the numerous Whigs—(Whigs, did we say, no! they are not worthy of the name)—who remained at home, and permitted their opponents to steal into power when they could have carried their whole ticket triumphantly. It is too late reason the case with them, but they will permit us to say, that if, by their supineness, the Locofocos are enabled to secure the Legislature, repeal the Banking law, and re-enact the other destructive measures, we shall be compelled to regard them as the aiders of Locofoco destruction. Just think of it; the Whigs of Stark could have polled 1,000 more votes, and they refused to do it! Had the whigs of Carroll been actuated by the same spirit of "stay-at-home-ativeness," we should have to announce to our readers an inglorious defeat; and, possibly, a Locofoco victory throughout the State.

WAYNE COUNTY—A GLORIOUS TRIUMPH.—The whole Independent ticket is elected in Wayne county: the majority for Gen. Lahm is between 100 and 200 hundred votes. This secures his election beyond controversy. Well done Wayne!

SUMMIT COUNTY.—The entire Whig ticket is elected in Summit; Bebb's majority about 600.

HARRISON COUNTY.—An Extra from the office of the Cadiz Republican has just been received: Bebb's majority is 276! and the entire whig ticket elected by nearly the same majority. So we go.

Verily, "a great many political graves were dug" by this "villainous tax law."

JEFFERSON COUNTY.—A flying report from this county, states that whig ticket succeeded by about 175 majority. P. S. This report is confirmed.

COLUMBIANA COUNTY.—Nothing has been heard from this county up to the time our paper was put to press.
