Patrick Rielly, of Smoketown, near Carbondale, attempted to assassinate Rev. Father O'Rourke, during the celebration of mass Sunday morning. Rielly returned home from the Danville Insane Asylum a few months ago, and has been frantic at times since then. On Sunday morning he marched through the streets to the church, carrying a loaded repeating rifle. Arrived there he passed up the centre aisle to the altar and aimed his gun at the priest. Several men caught him before he could fire and forced him from the church.
