LATEST FROM FRANCE.
The latest accounts by the Pacific, capt. Bowne, from Liverpool, are to the 5th September, with London dates to the 6th, and Paris to the 3d September, at which period the British ships of war were dismantling, paying off, and the seamen discharged immediately on the arrival of the ships in port, and it is stated that the peace establishment is to consist of eighty vessels only in commission, of all descriptions.
The hon. Mr Bagot (son to lord Bagot) appointed minister plenipotentiary to the United States of America is detained at present from embarking.
The Waterloo subscription for the relief of the sufferers of the allied army at the battle of the 18th of June amounted to 350,000l. sterling. The demand for British manufactured goods in Yorkshire, Manchester, and all the manufacturing towns, was beyond example, and the prices much enhanced.
Lord Stewart had arrived at Paris with a treaty of peace from England, wherein it appears that the allies are to continue to keep possession of the French fortresses, and 150,000 allied troops are to remain in France for that purpose.
Contributions are levied in France for 600,000,000 francs. An ordinance has been issued by the French government against marshal Moncey by which he is cashiered and imprisoned for refusing to preside as president of the council to try marshal Ney.
The allied sovereigns, the emperors of Austria and Russia, and the king of Prussia, were preparing to leave Paris about the 10th Sept. to review the Russian army at Vertus in Champagne, from whence they proceed to review the Austrian army in Burgundy; the emperor of Austria will then proceed to Milan, to be crowned King of Lombardy, accompanied by the emperor of Russia. The king of Prussia will remain in France with his army.
The reports on the interior state of France connected with the conduct of the allies have lately appeared in the French papers and have excited much interest. An attempt has been made to assassinate the duke and duchess of Angouleme.
French Funds 5 per cent. cons. 62 francs. 3 per cent. cons. 62—omnium 5 1-4.
The following are passengers in the Pacific: The Earl and Countess of Selkirk and family, Dr. Allan, Messrs. J. Wragg, H. Higgin, G. Gilmour, G. Glover, W. W. Chester and seven steerage passengers.
