Full Text

Cleveland industry brought these
people (southern "Negroes")
here
when it needed them badly.
Hard
times came and they were the first
to be lopped off the pay rolls on
which they had always held a most
humble position. It is not through
choice that these people inhabit the
slums. Necessity holds them there.
True, their present needs place a bur-
den on the community. But there is
no justice in the bland suggestions
that, since Cleveland industry which
brought them here no longer needs
them all, they should be thrust out
of the city's gate. Fortunately,
Cleveland has no intention of so do-
ing. -Cleveland Plain Dealer (and
couldn't do it even if it wanted to.
