Full Text

New-York, Oct. 8. On Friday Night last, we had a very severe Storm of Wind, accompany'd with Rain; whereby several Vessels are much damag'd, and the Docks torn up in several Places; it is thought, that if the Wind had continued another Tide, the Damages would have exceeded those sustain'd on the last Day of July, 1723.

On Saturday last arriv'd Capt. Alair from St. Eustatia, and St. Thomas; he informs, he felt the Storms we had here severely, and that he saw a Sloop which was drove on shore at Barnegat; he conjectures her to have been drove a shore on Friday, for on Saturday when he saw her she had all her Rigging standing, and that she was a Sea Sloop, appearing too large for a Coaster.
