Full Text

Stamping Receipts. The recent order of the Commissioner of Internal Revenue by which it has been decided that all Express receipts issued since the first of August last, must be stamped has caused quite a furore among our business men. Yesterday the office of Adam's Express Company was literally besieged by our business men, who were steadily engaged in affixing stamps in the Express receipt book wherever their signatures occurred. It is estimated that over one hundred thousand receipts have been issued at the Express office in this city since August last, and as each one will require a two cent stamp, our readers will readily perceive what a task it will be upon our business men to affix and cancel a stamp for each receipt. Within the past week three hundred thousand dollars worth of stamps have been sold in this city.
