Portland,
Monday, October 3,
1803.
Our details from Europe, given
this day,
brought by the schooner Gardner, capt. Casco
arrived at Wiscasset, on Wednesday last, in
30
days
from
Dublin
and
latest
news of a riot in the town —They err on
side of proper caution- all
actually interesting.
A change appears prog-
ress in the affairs of Europe, which we think will
materially
affect
the
political
aspect
of
that
world.
The
babble
of
invasion
which
lately
deluded
the
French
to
such
interest
about
burning
and some other trifles must now occupy the mind
of
the
arbiter
of
Europe
whose
arms
will be necessary to keep peace at home.
Letters from Dublin, received in this town,
at
Wiscasset
represent
business
as
very
stagnant
there—but that the city is quiet, and guarded
with the greatest security. The insurrection distant, all
in expectation of an invasion from France.
From a London paper of August 20.
A few days since a council of the seven French
Princes were
held. Pichegru and Dumouriez
were present.
With a view to an expedition to
France the
latter has certainly come to this country. The
Royal Standard is to be erected in France, under
these generals, accompanied by some of the Princes.
A British frigate and bomb vessel have bombarde-
d
Boulogne, and destroyed a great part of the
lower town and harbor. A party of seamen and
marines landed and set fire to several houses.
Orders have been sent to Dover for an hundred
Trinity Pilots to be ready at a moment's notice.
A loan has been opened by the house of Hope
and Co. De Smith and Willink, with the French
government, for 5 millions of dollars, to be paid
for in American Louisiana stock. -Amsterdam papers.
